Climate and Energy Campaigner FoEE

Friends of the Earth Europe is recruiting a Climate and Energy Campaigner with a focus on renewable energies. This is a full time, Brussels based position. 


We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person to join Friends of the Earth Europe’s Climate Justice and Energy team. The position will focus on FoEE’s new campaign to encourage the uptake of community owned renewable energies in Europe. It will require excellent advocacy and coordination skills to influence EU decision making and involve the FoEE member groups in the campaign. 

FoE Europe campaigns for sustainable and just societies and for the protection of the environment. It unites more than 30 national organisations with thousands of local groups, and is part of the world's largest grassroots environmental network, Friends of the Earth International.

Required qualifications:

  • A relevant university degree;
  • Minimum 3 years relevant professional experience with NGOs or as part of an international network; 
  • Knowledge of the climate and energy – in particular renewable energy – policy debate; 
  • Proven experience in advocacy work; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, strong sense of initiative, and reliability; 
  • Excellent communication skills, experience in media and press work; 
  • Experience in fundraising; 
  • Fluency in English (the working language of the office) - knowledge of other languages is an advantage; 
  • Commitment to the mission and values of FoEE.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Helping to coordinate advocacy work in Brussels and at national level, with FoEE member groups, to achieve the aims of our renewable energy campaign;
  • Maintaining an overview of the key policy issues and political processes, relevant research, critical events and policy developments; 
  • Helping to coordinate capacity building on European climate and energy related issues for FoEE member groups to maximize advocacy outcomes within our renewable energy campaign. 
  • Carrying out advocacy meetings to further the aims of the renewable energy campaign and build up good relationships with EU Commission, Council and Parliament officials; 
  • Supporting advocacy work on FoEE’s climate (‘Big Ask’) and energy efficiency campaigns; 
  • Drafting media releases and statements. Press spokesperson on relevant issues; 
  • Helping with the planning, organisation and delivery of internal and network events such as campaign strategy meetings; 
  • Contributing to fundraising efforts.
FoEE offers a highly motivating working environment in an international NGO. We offer a salary of €2.450 to €2.880 gross, depending on experience, plus benefits (13th month, lunch vouchers, pension scheme and hospitalisation insurance). Conditions are according to Belgian legislation including the legal ability to live and work in Belgium. This is a full time, Brussels based position.
