GIS Specialist in Los Baños, Philippines


ICRAF is recruiting a GIS Specialist
The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is an autonomous, non-profit international research organization supported by the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (CGIAR). ICRAF's mission is to improve human welfare and enhance environmental resilience in the tropics, through improved agroforestry systems.
BASIC PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the Philippine Country Coordinator, the GIS Specialist will implement activities related to the various project of ICRAF.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identification of resource flows among components contributing to productive coastal ecosystems, including the use of GIS to capture the spatial distribution of economic uses of resources.
  • Rapid agro-biodiversity appraisal (secondary data collection and review of previous and related studies; spatial analysis, stakeholder analysis) within the national park including its buffer zone.
  • Perform GIS analysis of ICRAF research sites;
  • Collect and synthesize data related to the project.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress and final reports of the project.
  • Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Country Coordinator.
Duration: Initially for 6 months but is renewable
Qualifications:
  • College (or equivalent) degree in Computer Science, Environmental Science, Forestry or related field. Master's degree is an advantage
  • Proficient in the use of RS-GIS and other tools/software for mapping (preferably a modeller);
  • Excellent communication (oral & written) skills will be an advantage;
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision;
  • Good technical/scientific writing skills will be an advantage;
  • Fit to travel to research sites if needed;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
