Investment Director / Manager, Financial Institutions


CDC is the UK's Development Finance Institution that invests to grow businesses and create jobs by providing debt and equity capital, directly and through intermediaries, to commercially viable businesses across Africa and South Asia. Under its new strategy CDC is hiring experienced professionals to establish a new team to make debt and equity investments in financial institutions such as commercial banks and non-bank finance companies (e.g. housing, leasing, microfinance institutions).
Responsibilities will include:
  • Establish relationships with a range of financial institutions in Africa and South Asia.
  • Generate quality deal flow and prepare investment reports for the investment committee.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on financial institutions, sectors, and countries.
  • Conduct detailed valuations on financial institutions including comparative analysis against listed companies and past transactions.
  • Manage an investment portfolio with a view to add value e.g. via participation on the Board of Directors and risk management.
Candidates are sought with experience in debt and private equity investments including:
  • At least six years experience in an international finance environment, ideally with a multilateral or bilateral development finance institution or private equity fund, with a strong track record of working in emerging markets such as Africa and/or South Asia.
  • Structuring, negotiating and reviewing investment proposals for financial institutions for debt and equity investments.
  • Equity valuations, financial structuring and direct investing.
