Senior EU Law or Policy Specialist , Milieu Ltd

Milieu Ltd, a dynamic consultancy based in Brussels is looking for a full-time associate with a strong EU law or policy background to support our busy staff. We are currently carrying out a range of challenging projects for the European Commission and other public sector clients, including studies on particular topics related to law and/or policy, in the areas of environment, energy, health and safety, fundamental rights etc. Please visit our website atwww.milieu.be for more details. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our strategic vision, and at the same time make an important contribution on technical and professional matters. This would include project management responsibilities so as to ensure that ongoing projects are successfully delivered to a high level of quality within the required deadline and budget. He or she will also be proactive in seeking new bid and business development opportunities, as well as devoting a significant amount of time to actual project & proposal activities. 

The person we are looking for will have had 5 to 10 years of previous experience carrying out law and/or policy studies, including in a management role, preferably for EU institutions or EU service providers. He or she should also have proven business development skills, including proposal writing.

He or she will be:

• Supporting the senior management team to achieve the business objectives of the company;
• Supervising and managing staff/associates and consultants on projects and bids as needed;
• Taking responsibility for project delivery and ensuring project profitability;
• Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with our professional staff, our sub consultants, our clients, external organisations and agencies, and identifying collaborative work opportunities.

Requirements:

• Professional qualifications (degree/diploma in law, economics, environmental studies or other relevant discipline) as well as a genuine interest in public law and policy, including environmental and/or human rights issues (College of Europe or similar training as well as working knowledge of the EU institutions definitely an asset);
• Experience at senior management level with a good track record of delivery of law and/or policy studies;
• Ability to introduce innovative and cost effective solutions to deal with project issues and risks;
• A proven track record of securing large scale (and high value) work in a competitive environment;
• Excellent spoken and written English; knowledge of other EU languages will be an asset.
